Johore State Railway

Although a railway across Johore to connect Johore Bahru with Malacca via the west coast settlements was considered in 1878 by the then Sultan, who died in 1898, it was not until 1904 that an agreement was reached between the new Sultan and the British administrators to build a direct line from Johore Bahru to Gemas on the Negri Sembilan border where it would join with the FMSR line then under construction from Tampin to Gemas. The Federated Malay States financed the construction by the FMSR with a loan to Johore and the line would be operated by the Johore State Railway but before the line opened there was an agreement for the FMSR to operate the line on behalf of Johore. Yet another agreement saw the line leased by the FMSR from the beginning of 1912. The locomotives initially belonged to the Johore State Railway and were in their livery. Eight locomotives had been purchased new while four had been obtained second-hand from the FMSR. Details of the locomotives are tabulated below and technical details can be found in the subsequent links.
